AFCAT Eligibility Criteria
Age & Marital Status
- Age: 20 to 26 years as of the date of commencement of course
- Relaxation of 2 years for candidates holding valid NCC Air Wing 'C' Certificate
- Unmarried candidates preferred for Flying Branch
- Married candidates eligible for Ground Duty branches
Educational Qualification
- Graduate in any discipline with minimum 60% marks
- BE/B.Tech for Ground Duty Technical Branch
- 10+2 with Physics & Maths for Flying Branch (via NDA/CDSE)
- Post Graduate degree also accepted
Physical Standards
- Height: Minimum 162.5 cm for males, 152 cm for females
- Weight proportionate to height and age as per IAF medical standards
- Vision: 6/6 in better eye, 6/9 in worse eye for Ground Duty; higher standards for Flying Branch
- Must be physically and mentally fit as per IAF medical examination norms
AFCAT Selection Process
- Stage 1 — AFCAT Written Exam: Online exam of 100 questions (300 marks) covering General Awareness, English, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning & Military Aptitude. Duration: 2 hours.
- Stage 2 — EKT (Engineering Knowledge Test): Only for candidates applying for Ground Duty Technical branch. Conducted along with AFCAT on the same day.
- Stage 3 — AFSB Interview: Air Force Selection Board conducts a 5-day evaluation including Psychology Tests, GTO tasks, and Personal Interview to assess Officer Like Qualities (OLQs).
- Stage 4 — Medical Examination: Comprehensive medical test by IAF doctors. Must meet vision, height, and fitness standards as per IAF norms.
- Stage 5 — Merit List & Commission: All-India merit list published. Selected candidates are commissioned as Flying Officers after training at Air Force Academy, Hyderabad.
